Ireland at Venice Book Selection

These nine books are specially chosen to accompany Niamh O'Malley’s exhibition, Gather at the 59th Biennale di Venezia, 2022. Eimear McBride and Brian Dillon are two of the commissioned writers for O’Malley’s forthcoming artist’s book to be launched at the opening of the Biennale in April. Their novels and writings have been an ongoing source of inspiration for O’Malley. Claire-Louise Bennett’s novel Checkout 19 inspired a filmed conversation between O’Malley and Bennett, recorded for Artforum in April 2022. The Milk of Dreams, a children’s book by Leonora Carrington, underpins curator Cecilia Alemani’s exhibition for the 59th Biennale. As well as these, the short essay Venice, An Interior, by Javier Marías is a worthwhile read for the journey to, or from, Venice. And finally, Niamh O’Malley’s publication from her memorable RHA exhibition in 2019, gives rich insight to her artistic practice, with texts by Claire-Louise Bennett, Isobel Harbison and Niamh O’Malley.

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is greatly honoured to present artist Niamh O'Malley at the Irish Pavilion for the 59th Venice Biennale, 2022.
