Black jacket, gray sweatshirt is a book by Jorge Satorre published on the occasion of his exhibition of the same name at CRAC Alsace, Centre rhénan d’art contemporain, curated by Elfi Turpin in the summer of 2021.
The descriptions included in the book are the observations written by Jorge Satorre in Mexico City’s Bosque de Chapultepec one October day in 2019. Based on these texts, the artist made a series of drawings over the course of four months, only referring to these written descriptions for guidance. Seven and a half hours of that day are represented, with each image corresponding to twenty minutes. In addition to helping classify the vegetation, each section of the grid represents one minute’s time. A couple appeared in the distance around 13:45 and left as it started to rain.
The ideas outlined in the introduction are mostly culled from historian Natacha Seseña’s book El vicio del barro (Madrid: Ediciones El Viso, 2009).
