Glossaries for Forwardness was a multi-platform project by Marie Farrington, examining convergences between landscape and memory through the architecture of the Museum Building in Trinity College Dublin. The project ran from 27 April–22 September 2023, and was curated by Rachel Botha.
Glossaries for Forwardness arose from Marie Farrington’s artist residency at Trinity Centre for the Environment (2021-22) where her research inverted and repurposed geological sampling methods into modes of making in the studio, exploring the capacity for landscape to participate in its own representation and display. The exhibition included site-responsive sculptural and textile interventions in the space, a six-channel audio installation in the building's ventilation shafts in collaboration with Stanislaw Welbel, and a public engagement programme including talks, screenings, listening sessions and an event in collaboration with the Department of Ultimology and Anaïs Chabeur. The exhibition was accompanied by a publication designed by Models & Constructs, including texts by geologist Dr. Quentin Crowley, writer Anneka French and artist Marie Farrington.
